SIMPLER, FASTER AND MORE EFFICIENT: LINE SHAFTS FROM R+W

Precision line shaft couplings (also referred to as link shafts and connecting shafts) are used for spanning larger distances between mechanical components. In the past, running shafting across greater lengths required support bearings to prevent the shaft from whipping during rotation. Modern line shafts are available in length of up to six meters without any intermediate support required. Their areas of application are widely diversified: including screw jack lift systems, overhead gantries, conveyors, and in the mechanical synchronization of belt driven linear actuators.

LINE SHAFTS - STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION

Line shafts are much like precision couplings in their structure, in that the main elements are end hubs of varying designs and flexible joints consisting of metal bellows or elastomer inserts. They also include a cut-to-length, high precision intermediate tube made of aluminium, steel or CFRP (carbon fiber) to provide the spacing. By eliminating time consuming alignment of intermediate support bearings, line shafts save the machine builder time and the cost of additional components. Line shafts from R+W are completely free of backlash and can be used in temperatures ranging from -30° C to + 100° C.

OVERVIEW OF LINE SHAFTS FROM R+W

ONE LINE SHAFT PRODUCER - TWO LINE SHAFT TYPES

R+W provides both flexible bellows and elastomer type line shafts.

Vibration damping line shafts with elastomer inserts as the compensating elements absorb vibration and shock loads. In their standard configurations they are available in lengths of up to 4 meters, bore diameters ranging from 5 to 140 mm, and torque capacities of up to 25,000 Nm.

Torsionally rigid lines shafts use high precision metal bellows couplings on the ends. Thanks to a special support system that transfers the weight of the intermediate tube out to the end hubs while still allowing for misalignment compensation, they can span distances of up to 6 meters. Bellows type line shafts cover a torque range from 10 to 4,000 Nm and bore diameters ranging from 5 to 100 mm.
