LOCK DRIVES - HIGH STABILITY
Constructing a lock places high demands on the components and materials used. Locks must be stable enough to hold back up to 600,000 m³ of water. This also permits interference in the output of the motors that open and close the locks. A mechanical overload function in the drive is indispensable for preventing the lock gates and their drives from being damaged as a result of watercraft positioned incorrectly as the gates close.
With R+W as a development partner, a solution for this task was found. An ST series heavy-duty safety coupling was used, which satisfies the requirements for corrosion resistance. Even the requirement for protection against the intrusion of water into the coupling was met through the use of a special seal. Another advantage for the lock operator is in the fact that these rugged safety couplings are maintenance free and therefore do not generate any additional follow-up costs.
