MACHINE TOOLS - HIGH MACHINING SPEEDS IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY
The requirements for precision and speed at machining centers are constantly rising. This particularly applies to the automotive industry. The contour-grinding machines must produce camshafts with high precision and smooth surfaces for freight trucks and passenger vehicles.
As a result of just-in-time production, which has become the standard in this industry sector, high machining speeds must be attained. Increasing speeds depends directly on the propulsive power. As the power increases, however, the drive vibrations become greater, which for their part have a negative impact on the precision of the grinding machines.
To solve this problem, high-strength aluminum R+W elastomer couplings are used. These dampen the vibrations and compensate for shaft misalignments. At the same time, they are backlash-free, non-wearing and have long-life durability. Despite zero backlash, the couplings are still easy to fit, which facilitates assembly.
