R+W SUCCESSFULLY JOINS „ UMWELTPAKT BAYERN“ – THE BAVARIAN ENVIRONMENTAL PACT
With great pleasure R+W received the certificate of participation in „Umwelt Bayern“ (Bavarian Environmental Pact) by county commissioner Jens Marco Scherf under the authority of district council Dr. Eugen Ehmann. R+W, the industrial and precision coupling specialist, will voluntarily implement independent projects for sustainable use of natural resources.
The Bavarian Environmental Pact brings state government and economy together. The aim is to create a voluntary and reliable cooperation, to protect natural resources from all of us. The state is convinced that it is easier to achieve these goals with volunteers than with laws and regulations. The pact will set an example that economy and ecology are not contrasting ideas and can work together to contribute to job growth, wealth, and a flourishing environment. R+W is one of 27 participating companies in the district of Miltenberg.
The list of environmental protection projects for the newly built R+W headquarters in Woerth am Main is long and impressive. According to manager Holger Vogt, they constructed a solar power system on the roof of the manufacturing floor with a top performance of 170kWp. Up to 70% of the electricity generated by the solar panels will be consumed by R+W. But there were additional projects in increase energy efficiency, including harvesting the heat dissipation from the compressed air generator of the heating system. The lost heat can then be re-used to energize in the underfloor heating and cooling systems. Thanks to this system, R+W didn’t need to use the air-conditional for even a single day this year.
The company converted completely to LED lighting, which according to Mr Vogt offers two great benefits: It has a big positive influence on the energy consumption and significantly improves the Illumination of the workplaces. These LED lights can compensate for exterior daylight, therefore the same brightness level is possible throughout the whole working day.
A ventilation system with HEPA filters enables efficient air circulation; furthermore, the windows can be opened in all levels of the facility. Four chargers for electric bikes and e-cars have been built for the staff. R+W also strives to remain as carbon-neutral as possible. According to Mr Vogt, R+W’s preparation for ISO 14001 is running on schedule. With this demanding certification, our company wants to reduce our environmental impact and fulfil other legal obligations and environmental objectives. Smaller measures, such as a drip irrigation system for the green areas around the building, complement the company’s commitment. Additionally, R+W supports the region by offering internships to young professionals. In 2020, three trainees started their training; two in the commercial department and one as a technical designer.
County commissioner Jens Marco Scherf was extremely impressed with R+W’s achievements. „You took all opportunities, which are presented when constructing a new building“, commended the county commissioner after a guided tour through the company. „The concept is completely compelling“ said Mr Scherf and was happy about „so many future-oriented solutions“. Before handing the certificate or participation to the management trio of Holger Vogt, Frank Kronmueller, and Maximilian Croessmann, the county commissioners stated that R+W has become a positive example of how local companies assume responsibility for the environment and handle resources with care.
