R+W builds a giant coupling
In June and July, R+W probably built the world’s largest mechanical coupling with an outer diameter of 4,000 mm.
The safety coupling – an STF 20.000, 470 mm long – is destined to protect two six-megawatt engines in future. The outer diameter measures a scarcely believable 4,000 mm while the inner diameter is 700 mm. The manually engaging coupling has a (torque) adjustment range of 15,000 to 20,000 kNm and works at speeds of between 0 and 20 rpm. The giant weighs a hefty 21,500 kg. Impressive facts that are surely worthy of a world record.
